Salma Zahran, an Egyptian master’s student from Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College (SJTUGC, abbreviated as GC), has been selected as the recipient of the SJTU Outstanding Graduate Student (International Student) award for the Class of 2026, according to a recent announcement of SJTU International Student Service Center.

Salma Zahran enrolled at SJTU in September 2023 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science and Technology at GC, with a research focus on AI for Science. During her studies, she has demonstrated strong academic performance while actively engaging in cultural activities and community initiatives, achieving comprehensive academic and personal development.
Reflecting on her study experience in Shanghai, Salma noted that her time at SJTU has been both an academic journey and a period of significant personal growth. Through learning a new language and immersing herself in a new cultural environment, she has broadened her global perspective and deepened her understanding of how advanced technologies can support scientific progress and societal development. She described SJTU as a solid foundation for pursuing future challenges and opportunities.

Scheduled to graduate in March 2026, Salma plans to remain in China in the coming years to further explore the intersection of artificial intelligence, scientific research, and real-world applications. She is currently applying to doctoral programs while also considering internship or employment opportunities in industry. “No matter which path I eventually choose,” she said, “my core goal remains the same: to use my technical expertise responsibly amid rapid technological advancement, maintain curiosity and humility, and continue growing into a more mature researcher and a global citizen.”
