Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College (SJTUGC, abbreviated as GC hereafter) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong‘s (CUHK) Faculty of Engineering signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on January 28 to jointly launch integrated bachelor-to-doctor programs under the Global Degree Pathways (GDP) initiative. The MOU was signed by GC Dean Professor Hesheng Wang and Professor Tsang Hon-ki, dean of CUHK’s Faculty of Engineering.

According to the MoU signed on January 28 in Hong Kong,  students may apply independently to CUHK’s Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs. The programs span a broad range of cutting-edge disciplines, including embodied intelligence, robotics, automation and control, artificial intelligence, information science, materials science and engineering, and mechanical engineering. Students successfully admitted will receive full financial support from CUHK, providing strong backing for their academic development and research training.

Under the MoU, the integrated programs are primarily open to fourth-year undergraduate students at GC. Interested students may submit applications during the fall semester of their senior year. Following nomination by GC and evaluation by CUHK, selected candidates may receive conditional pre-admission offers to master’s or doctoral programs prior to their undergraduate graduation. After completing their undergraduate studies at GC in August, students will directly transition into postgraduate study at CUHK’s Faculty of Engineering in September of the same year, forming a seamless and continuous academic pathway.

The first round of applications is now open. Both parties expressed strong expectations for the collaboration and agreed to take the GDP program as a starting point to gradually establish a multi-dimensional partnership framework encompassing dual bachelor’s degree programs and diversified graduate-level initiatives. By fully leveraging the complementary strengths of both institutions in engineering education and research, the partnership aims to broaden international academic pathways for SJTU students, deepen cooperation in scientific research and discipline development, and foster an exemplary model of collaboration between leading universities in mainland China and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
