On June 10, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College (SJTUGC, abbreviated as GC) and the École d’Ingénieurs Paris Excellence jointly hosted an intercultural sharing event at the SJTU International Exchange Center. The event was part of the Fourth Shanghai Jiao Tong University Intercultural Demonstration Education Program. Students from seven countries introduced the food, cities, customs, and traditions of their home countries, providing a platform for Chinese and international students to engage in cross-cultural exchange and mutual learning.
During the sharing session, students from France introduced French cuisine, wine culture, and major cities, offering insights into the country’s history and lifestyle. Students from Brazil shared aspects of Brazilian culture, including the nation’s passion for football, its diverse society, and the natural beauty of the Amazon rainforest.
Students from Armenia presented the country’s history, language, and cultural heritage. The session concluded with an interactive demonstration of a traditional Armenian dance, allowing participants to experience Armenian culture firsthand.
Students from Southeast Asia then introduced the cultural characteristics of their respective countries. Presentations highlighted Myanmar’s jade industry and Buddhist traditions, Malaysia’s multicultural society and unique geography, Thailand’s etiquette customs and traditional arts, and Indonesia’s rich ethnic and cultural diversity as the world’s largest archipelagic nation. Through these presentations, participants gained a deeper understanding of the region’s history, traditions, and contemporary life.
The event provided students with an opportunity to learn about cultures from Europe, Asia, and Latin America while broadening their international perspectives. It also created a platform for Chinese and international students to build friendships and strengthen intercultural understanding through face-to-face interaction.
GC will continue to organize intercultural exchange activities as part of its efforts to foster an inclusive international campus environment and provide students with more opportunities for global engagement and cross-cultural learning.
