On October 12, Jenny Mak, Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Graduate Affairs from the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University (abbreviated as Columbia Engineering hereafter), and Jenny Choy, a graduate admissions officer, visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College (SJTUGC, abbreviated as GC hereafter) to give a presentation and meet with students. Hesheng Wang, Dean of GC, and David Hung, Associate Dean for International Cooperation and Exchange, attended the event.

At the opening, Wang welcomed the guests and expressed hope that the session would help students gain a deeper understanding of Columbia Engineering’s educational approach, broaden their international perspectives, and make more informed decisions about their future academic plans and graduate study options.

Jenny Choy introduced Columbia University’s overall scale, the academic departments within Columbia Engineering, its faculty and academic strengths. She highlighted the university’s support for interdisciplinary education and offered guidance on how students can pursue their interests across disciplinary boundaries.

Addressing students’ broader academic and personal development, Jenny Mak introduced Columbia’s global alumni network, career development services for enrolled students, and a range of campus resources, including student organizations and sports and cultural activities. Her presentation gave students a clearer picture of the academic and campus environment they could expect as international students.
At the end of the presentation, the two guests provided targeted guidance on the application process and answered students’ questions.
