The Ministry of Education recently announced the results of the 2025 undergraduate program registration and approval review for Chinese universities. Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College (SJTUGC, abbreviated as GC hereafter) has officially received approval to establish a new undergraduate major in Data Science and Big Data Technology, with student enrollment beginning in 2026.

The new program focuses on building secure and trustworthy big data technology systems and fostering new ecosystems for the big data industry. It aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents equipped with core capabilities in big data collection and processing, data analytics and mining, and system development.
The curriculum covers a wide range of frontier areas, including industrial big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), cross-domain data integration, theoretical foundations of data science, big data computing systems and analytical methods, data analytics and mining, data visualization, information security and privacy protection, natural language understanding, machine learning, deep learning, and the exploration of disruptive big data-driven application models.
