Ivánio Tjin-A-Djie: a JI journey of heritage and innovation

Ivánio Tjin-A-Djie, a 24-year-old graduate student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI), embarked on an academic journey that began in Suriname, South America, passed through the Netherlands, Europe, and ultimately brought him to Shanghai, China in Asia. For Ivánio, who thrives on adventure and exploring the unknown, his journey to JI was not only a fulfillment of his academic aspirations but also a return to his ancestral roots, allowing him to delve deeper into the rich culture of China.

Shaping the Future: Yusif Mammadov’s JI journey from Baku to Shanghai

At just 17 years old, Yusif Mammadov from Baku, Azerbaijan, has already accomplished an impressive array of achievements. Fluent in five languages and proficient in six programming languages, he has also established a green technology startup. Fresh out of high school, Yusif has embarked on an exciting journey, leaving his hometown, often called the “Paris of the Caucasus”, to study in Shanghai, the “Paris of the East,” as a freshman at the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute.

JI student wins best paper award at IEEE microwave workshop

Doctoral student Yiyang Song of the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute (UM-SJTU JI, JI hereafter) has won the Best Student Paper Award at the 2024 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Workshop Series on Advanced Materials and Processes for RF and THz Applications. His award-winning paper, titled “A K-band Power Amplifier Designed Based on 65 nm CMOS Process,” was selected from over 300 articles by scholars from around the world at the international seminar held in Nanjing from November 8 to November 11.
