Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College (SJTUGC, abbreviated as GC hereafter) celebrated its 20th anniversary with a high-quality development conference held at Jingjing Hall on the SJTU Minhang Campus on April 12, coinciding with the 130th anniversary of the university.


Chairman of the GC Council Haojin Zhu presided over the event.

SJTU Vice President Weidong Liu extended congratulations on behalf of the university and expressed appreciation to all those who have supported GC’s development. He recognized the college’s achievements in international education, engineering education reform, and talent cultivation over the past two decades. Looking ahead, Liu emphasized the importance of upholding the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, advancing high-quality development, deepening educational reform, and expanding global partnerships to contribute to the university’s “Double First-Class” initiative and China’s opening-up in education.

GC Dean Hesheng Wang presented an overview of the college’s development. He reviewed key milestones over the past 20 years and outlined recent progress in student recruitment, international collaboration, faculty development, academic programs, and talent cultivation. GC has pioneered a replicable model of high-level international cooperation in higher education characterized by equality, mutual benefit, and shared growth. The college will continue to advance strategies in international collaboration, research, and industry-education integration, aiming to cultivate globally competitive talent with a strong understanding of both China and the world, he said.

Jun Ni, honorary dean of GC, shared reflections on the college’s early development and its initial efforts in international academic exchange and talent training. He expressed gratitude to the leaders and partners who have supported the college and voiced expectations for further enhancing its global influence in the years ahead.

Wa Zong, executive director of the China Education Association for International Exchange and former deputy secretary-general, delivered a keynote report. Drawing on his experience in international education exchange, he affirmed GC’s achievements and outlined expectations in three areas: strengthening quality assurance in international cooperative education, deepening industry–university–research collaboration to support technological innovation, and enhancing students’ global leadership to build a world-class talent hub.

John Wu, founder and chairman of Fenghe Investment and a member of the SJTU Board, reflected on his long-term engagement with GC. He emphasized the importance of internationalization, resource integration, and interdisciplinary development, particularly in the context of the artificial intelligence era. He expressed confidence in the college’s continued growth and future impact.

During the conference, the “Shaping the Future with Innovation” Industry–Academia Alliance was officially launched.

Yu Ma, an undergraduate student enrolled in 2024, spoke on behalf of current students, highlighting her academic and personal growth at GC through research participation, industry engagement, and volunteer service.

Zongchang Liu, a 2008 undergraduate alumnus and Rotating CEO of Foxconn Industrial Internet, delivered remarks on behalf of alumni. He announced the establishment of the Miyuan Fund to support the college’s future development and emphasized the strength of the GC alumni community.

Student representatives presented flowers to leaders and partners in appreciation of their longstanding support for the college’s development.

A series of parallel events were held in the afternoon at Long Bin Building, including the Miyuan High-End Forum on Intelligent Robotics, the Miyuan Distinguished Alumni Forum on Data Science and Security, the inauguration of the Terahertz Communication Interdisciplinary Research Center, Go Global Day 2026, and the opening of the Alumni Home.

The Miyuan High-End Forum on Intelligent Robotics featured presentations by leading experts on topics such as embodied intelligence, aerospace robotics, and biomimetic systems, promoting academic exchange and industry collaboration.

The Miyuan Distinguished Alumni Forum on Data Science and Security brought together alumni scholars from around the world to share research on frontier topics, reflecting GC’s strengths in interdisciplinary talent cultivation.

Go Global Day 2026 provided a platform for students, alumni, and global partners to engage in international programs, cultural exchange, and project showcases. Alumni sharing sessions highlighted the impact of GC’s international education on personal and professional development.

The Alumni Association Council convened at the GC Faculty & Staff Club to discuss strategies for strengthening alumni engagement and supporting the college’s development.

The Alumni Home, designed by 2006 alumnus Simin Wang, was officially inaugurated as a welcoming space to foster connection, heritage, and innovation.

The Terahertz Communication Interdisciplinary Research Center was also officially established. Bringing together national-level young talents and multidisciplinary teams, the center will build a full-chain research platform spanning materials physics, core chip devices, and system-level communication and sensing.
